Baha festival is celebrated grandly in Durgapur district of Jharkhand. The local priest of Jharkhand was distributing the Mahua flowers and Sal to both the women and men, and the tribal were playing the drum beats. This colorful festival of Baha is celebrated in the Durgapur district of Jharkhand. It’s a three day long festival and the very first day is dedicated for performing the ritual of purification. On the beautiful occasion, the tribal community named Jatherthan (A holy grove) in their village and set up a dwelling in the deity. Later the traditions are continued with the priest offering prayers.

On the very second day, the tribal of this region comes together to perform the Jatherthan that included dancing and singing. The priest offers certain rituals after attaining the prayers that is for the honor of deity and the ancestors. They are specially offered with the help of Sal and Mahua flowers to perform certain tradition and rituals. The priest distributes them equally and is worn by all. Men tuck these flowers behind their ears and the women usually prefer it in their hair. The people here generally celebrate by dancing and singing the holy festival which is popularly known as Santhali holi. The priest visits every house and all the family members welcome him grandly, women wash his feet and then he gives them the beautiful Sal flower. This is the tribal traditional that takes place in the festival of Baha.

The third and the last day are of the celebration. The tribals celebrate the Baha Festival as the part of their traditional ritual. During the time of the festival, the priest has to sleep on the mat made up of straw and the land is purified with the help of cow dung.

The Santhals are considered to be one of the largest tribe communities of India restrain in the state of Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal and Bihar.

Barura Sharif

There is a holy shrine of Date Amir Ali Shah at Barura Sharif on the river bank of Sat Bahini that lies in the Pratappur. It is believed that the Sufi saint used to visit this place and came here during the later half of 18th century. The Muslims and the Hindus come here to offer their prayers to the reverend saint at his Mazaar. People who have problems from the evil spirits do visit and come here in huge amount and help to cure them.

Jharkhand is the place where there is majority of the tribal community that decorates the land with the help of their tradition and the rituals. Sarhul is one of the most important festivals. It is celebrated in the month of March and April. This is the only festival that is actually related to the particular tree which is known as Sakhua and the sun and the earth. In fact, the festival of Sarhul is connected to the entire nature. Also in the forest that belong to the Chota Nagpur that comes after the season of spring, when this beautiful nature is full spree, then suddenly there enlightens the lives in the people or the tribes of Jharkhand with the joyous time. The get mixed with the simplicity of nature and enjoy every bit of this festival. There is dancing and singing that makes them feel very enthusiastic and there are various types of songs that are sung by the tribes in this region.
