Mathura is a city located in the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on the west of the river Yamuna. This place is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna, located at the center of Braj or Brajbhoomi, called Shri Krishna’s Janmabhoomi. The twin city to Mathura is Vrindavan.

Mathura is located approximately 50 kilometers north from Agra, 145 kilometers southeast from Delhi; 11 kilometers from the town of Vrindavan, and 22 kilometers from Govardhan. The city lies at 27°17′N 77°25′E and at an average elevation of 174 meters (570 feet) above sea level. The total area covered by the city is 3,709 square kilometers. Mathura is one of the seven holiest Hindu cities of India and is well-connected to all neighboring and other major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ujjain, Lucknow, and more.
