The city of Vrindavan is a holy city along River Yamuna in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the most ancient cities of the country and is believed to be the locale where the famous Hindu deity Lord Krishna had resided as a child. This is the place where the lord perhaps had spent his childhood. The city is dotted with several temples, most of which have Lord Krishna or Radhe-Krishna as the presiding deity. Some of the notable temples of Vrindavan are Banke Bihari temple, Radha Raman temple, Prem Mandir, Sri Madan Mohan temple, Krishna Balaram ISKON Temple, Rangaji temple etc

Pilgrims from all over the country visit Vrindavan to soak in the spiritual ecstasy that pervades the air of Vrindavan. Also, Krishna followers from different corners of the globe; i.e. the Hare Krishna devotees community throng the place all year round. Vrindavan city is nearly 150kms to Delhi’s south.

‘Vrindavan’ got its name from ‘Vrinda’; i.e. ‘Tulsi’. The place as is commonly believed was full of Tulsi groves, the still surviving ones being the Sevakunj grove and the Nidhivan grove. As per myths Sevakunj was the site of Raaslila between Lord Krishna and the Gopis while Nidhivan was the idyllic resting venue for Radha-Krishna; the celestial divine couple.

Several interesting stories related to lord Krishna’s childhood lilas make their rounds in Vrindavan till date. Vrindavan once a densely forested area is now gradually yielding place to urbanization. Tourists make a bee line to Vrindavan during the festivals of Janmashtami, Radhastami, Holi, Brahmotsava. These festivals are celebrated with immense furor and pomp at Vrindavan. If you are in love with Krishna, your spiritual appetite will aptly be satiated at Vrindavan; the land of the ‘child’ Krishna. The best time to visit this holy land is between months January and March…during this time, the weather of Vrindavan remains the most traveler-friendly.
