Char Dham Opening & Closing Dates 2025

Char Dham Yatra takes you to the four revered Dhams of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, cradled amid the sky-touching, snow-wrapped peaks of Uttarakhand. The Yatra to Char Dham follows a definite time span and has fixed opening and closing dates every year. The Yatra season of the Char Dham is greatly influenced by the weather conditions prevailing in the high Himalayas and seasonal variations in weather.

Generally, each year, the Char Dham Yatra opens on the auspicious muhurat of Akshaya Tritiya, which falls in the Hindu month of Vaishakh, i.e., around the months of April-May, and closes on the sacred day of Diwali, which falls in the Hindu month of Kartik, i.e., around the months of October-November. On the opening day, the kapat (door) of the four Char Dham main shrines is thrown open to receive a flood of pilgrims who eagerly wait outside the kapat of the temples for their first darshan of the year.

On the closing day of the Yatra, the idols of the presiding deities in the four main Char Dham shrines are shifted with much pomp and grandeur to their winter abodes at a lower altitude, and the doors of the main shrines are shut for the wintry break.
