From the Swargate, a famous landmark of Pune, the Saras Baug lays at a distance of just 1 km. Tourists from all over the world drop in here to witness the abundant greens and the blooming blossoms of the Saras Baug. The thing for which the place is more popular is the Ganesha Temple, also called the Ganpati Math, which cradles in the premises of the garden.

The make up
The present day Saras Baug stands in a place where previously stilled a small lake. Due to natural weather conditions, the water of the lake dried up leaving behind an empty patch of land. The Saras Baug was then built up in the original plot of the lake. The Ganpati Temple dates back to the times of Madhavrao Peshwa. It is said that there had occurred a natural emerging of a rock in slight shape of Lord Ganesh, which was later transformed into a well- carved Ganesh Murti (idol), which was later placed in the temple built for it. This temple hangs on the very top of a hillock, near the previous Lake. Later, when the Saras Baug in Pune was built, the temple came to be known as a component of the campus of the garden. There is a small bridge like structure made up of bamboos and stone carries one to and from between the temple and the garden.
