This location of this ancient monument is about four kilometers from the Agra city. This was a coffin of Akbar. The construction work of this ancient delightful monument began by the King Akbar. This mausoleum is considered as a best mixture of the various religions such as Islamic, Hindu, Jain, Christian and Buddhist. The responsibility of the completion of this monument was then hand over to the Jehangir, he was a son of Akbar; the reason behind this hand over was King Akbar unfortunately died. When the responsibility came into the hands of the Jahangir, he made some changes in the original design plan of this monument. This marvelous monument is actually a perfect master piece which shows the development of the Mughal art. Art of the Mughal is really fabulous and it has been proved through different structures of the Mughal Period. Even you can observe by tomb of Humayun which is located at Delhi, Sikandra of Akbar and the last one Taj Mahal.

The name of the monument Sikandra, came from the name of Sikander Lodhi. There are four different minarets, on four different corners of the Sikandra. These 4 minarets are constructed in the red color stone. These minarets are designed by the inlay work. If you have seen the various proofs of Mughal arts, you must be observed the rich and fine designing, which contain so much detailed work, that it just force you think about it. Not only the monument building is beautiful but the surrounding of this monument is also very refreshing because of the garden area. There is one more ancient structure had been made, that is Baradi Palace, and it was made by the Sikandar Lodhi. When you will go back to the Agra from the Sikandra, you will get to see the Kos Minars and various tombs.

Ground Floor

On the ground floor area of the Sikandra, there is a rectangular open space, on the all 4 passage but not at the southern part. This open space has been distinguished through the several bays, arches and also piers. The area of the each bay is around twenty two feet. The entry gate of this monument has been designed by the very impressive and attractive carving designs, inlay work contain floral and geometric designs, painting made by that period’s artists all these decorative ornaments had been used to make this monument so much decorative. The coffin stone of the Akbar had been placed at the center point of the room. In this monument, there are 2 coffins more of Akbar’s daughters Aram Bano and Shakrul Nisha.

3rd and 4th Storeys

3rd and 4th storeys are built in very small size as compare to the other one. These storeys have a perfect arrangement of the arches which gives support to the chhatris and pillars.

Mausoleum

The strong cause away is very much supportive to the Akbar tomb. This tomb includes 5 storeys which are available in the truncated pyramid shape.  The major tomb of the monument has been built in the square shape is matchless to the Mughal period’s other numbers of buildings.

5th Storey

This ancient monument’s 5th storey is totally built in the white color marble which is opposite to the storey of lower side. This storey is constructed in the red color stone.

Second Storey

Sikandra’s 2nd monument contains open space on every side. This open space is as large as twenty three bays. This storey had been decorated by the square shaped pillar and arch, this has given very different impressive look to this storey.

If you want to enter into this beautiful Sikandra monument, then you have to pay some money as entry fees, for the Indian people the charge is 10Rs. Each, for the foreigners’ fees is around 245/-Rupees. This monument is open for the visitors only on week days. To visiting this historical monument is not at all difficult thing, in transportation way, because it is linked with each kind of transporting source.

Agar is a main railway station, from this railways station Sikandra is very much close. You can take superfast or express rails to reach the Agra. After getting down at the Agra station, you can easily reach at the Sikandra monument. If you are comfortable with rail then you can come by rail. If you planning to go by Air, then Agra airport is a closest airport, which is closes to the Sikandra. This airport connected to the Khajuraho, Delhi, and also Varanasi is some of the essential cities of the India. After landing at this airport, the distance between the airport and Sikandra is about ten kilometers. You can also choose bus transport because this is also very well linked by the bus; it is upon you, which source you want to choose.
