Badrinath is the final stop on the char Dham pilgrimage in Uttarakhand. The home of Lord Vishnu, Badrinath is located at an elevation of 3,300 meters in Uttarakhand, near the Neelkanth peak in Chamoli District. Like the other pilgrimage centers, Badrinath remains open for six months, starting in the summer, and closes for the winter when Lord Vishnu shifts residence to Joshimath, his winter home in the Narasimha Temple.

Badrinath Kapat Opening & Closing Dates 2025
| Opening Date 2025 | 2 May 2025 |
| Closing Date 2025 | 23 October 2025 (tentative) |
Opening Date
The priests of the temple consult almanacs and decide on the specific opening day each year. For 2025, the opening day is set for 2 May, just three days after the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya. The priests typically choose an auspicious day, such as Vasant Panchami, to determine both the temple’s opening and closing dates. 2nd May is convenient for Hindu pilgrims, as the Kedarnath temple opens on 2 May, allowing devotees to visit both temples and complete the final leg of the Char Dham Yatra.
It is worth noting that the opening dates of all four temples in the Char Dham circuit generally fall around Akshaya Tritiya, which is the third day of the lunar month of Vaisakh.
Closing Date
The priests at Badrinath fix the closing date on Vijayadashami, usually a couple of days after Diwali. Before the temple doors are closed, the idol is shifted to the Narasimha Temple in Joshimath for the winter. Prior to closing, the priests place a lamp in front of the idol in the sanctum. When the doors are reopened in the summer, it is believed that the lamp continues to burn. Hindus believe that during the winter months, Narad Muni continues the prayer services at the Badrinath Temple.
